Finding a sedan that’s compact, fuel-efficient and spacious enough for a family is no easy feat. For 2013 GM has brought back its best-selling passenger car worldwide, the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze, as an answer to those looking for practicality, fuel-efficiency and roominess that every growing family is looking for.
The 2013 Chevy Cruze is available in the LS,LT, LTZ and ECO Trims.

What’s New?

New for 2013 is the introduction of the Chevrolet MyLink infotainment system as standard equipment on specific trim packages, plus other technological upgrades not seen in other compact cars such as a rear vision camera, Rear Park Assist, Side Blind Zone Alert and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert.

Under The Hood

The 2013 Cruze offers two fuel-efficient engine choices paired with either a six-speed automatic or six-speed manual transmission.

Standard in the entry level trim, the Cruze LS, is an Ecotec 1.8-liter four-cylinder that is able to produce 138 hp to the front wheels and delivering an impressive, EPA-estimated 36 mpg highway. LT, LTZ and Eco models come standard equipped with a turbocharged Ecotec 1.4-liter engine that balances offers a combination of power (138 hp and 148 lb/ft of torque)  and fuel efficiency (EPA Estimates go up to 42 mpg for the Eco trim with manual transmission). That number makes the Cruze Eco the most fuel-efficient, gasoline-powered/non-hybrid car in America, offering up to 500 miles on a single tank of gas.

The 2013 Chevy Cruze is stocked with a MacPherson strut front suspension, rack-mounted electric power steering and an available Z-link rear suspension design making the Cruze not just a practical vehicle for the family, but a very fun one to drive! The 2013 Cruze is easy to maneuver through crowded city streets, and makes it easy to find a place to park it.

Exterior

Outside, the 2013 Chevy Cruze features an arching roofline and an aerodynamic design that helps increase its fuel efficiency and reduce cabin noise. The prominent two-tier grille wears the iconic Chevrolet bowtie badge, and it offers a choice between 16-, 17- and 18-inch wheels. For those who seek a bit more sportiness, an available RS Appearance Package adds unique fascias, rocker moldings, foglamps and rear spoiler.

Features

The 2013 Chevy Cruze comes with the following standard features: full power accessories, air conditioning, anti-theft system, an adjustable steering wheel, remote keyless entry, a USB port and a six-speaker stereo with SiriusXM Satellite Radio capability.

If you want to take the Cruze to the next level, available options include a power sunroof, rear vision camera, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob and a seven-inch color touch-screen display.

Standard on 2LT, Eco and LTZ models, the 2013 Chevy Cruze now features the popular MyLink infotainment system, equipped with Bluetooth hands-free phone and streaming audio integration as well as voice recognition for phone, radio and music control. Streaming internet audio applications, such as Pandora and Stitcher, are included, and Gracenote displays album artwork on the standard color touch-screen that also controls the stereo, CD player and MP3 playback.

Safety

The available Enhanced Safety Package includes the previously mentioned Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Rear Park Assist.

Even without this package, the 2013 Chevy Cruze still stays on top of its class when it comes to safety, by being the first compact sedan to offer 10 airbags as standard equipment, and by strategically placing high-strength steel in crucial areas for maximum impact absorption. With the inclusion of StabiliTrak® the 2013 Chevy Cruze will come equipped with electronic stability control with Rollover Mitigation, Traction Control and antilock braking as standard equipment. The 2013 Cruze achieved a perfect five star rating in overall performance in government crash testing and achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

Rounding off the safety features, the 2013 Chevrolet Cruze is also equipped with the popular OnStar system. Which not only automatically notifies authorities in the event of an accident, but it also features Stolen Vehicle Slowdown, Remote Door Unlock and Emergency Services and many other features. Also, a new RemoteLink Mobile App lets smartphone users remotely control vehicle functions from the convenience of their phones, another very nifty feature.

Conclusion

When you add it all up, the 2013 Chevy Cruze really is the full package. It offers all the amenities, safety, roominess and quietness of a larger sedan combined with the efficiency and value of a compact car, so we expect it to be a favorite among compact sedan fans.

Autonomous Cars Are Coming

"Look Ma, No hands!"

During the past few months Nevada, Florida and California have all legalized driver-less cars, and Washington D.C has been considering whether to follow suit.

As with California’s recently enacted law, the Districts’ bill would require that a licensed driver be present in the driver’s seat of these vehicles. While this is a big step for the cause of autonomous vehicles, it will greatly restrict some of the more promising functions of the driver-less technology that would allow those with disabilities to be able to enjoy the personal mobility that most people take for granted. Google demonstrated the potential for this technology when it had one of its driver-less cars driving a legally blind man to a Taco Bell.

Google is not the only big name pursuing this technology.  Supply giant Continental plans to have autonomous driving assistance available for limited freeway driving and for construction areas by 2015, low-speed city capability in 2017, and two-lane highway and country road driver-less car technology by the end of the decade. The company calls this "the car you can't crash," and the company hopes for a zero-percent accident rate with this technology.

Continental’s key components of the driver-less car include 360-degree cameras, adaptive cruise control, emergency brake assist using radar and camera options, and an emergency brake assist designed for pedestrian protection (which allows the car to make an evasive maneuver by steering in and out of a driving lane).

The European Union will discuss driver-less car legislation at a convention in Vienna.

In the U.S, the states of Nevada, Florida, and California have been the most proactive in advance the cause in the U.S., while Arizona and Hawaii considered similar laws, but failed to pass them.

A Google spokesperson stated that the state of Nevada was very cooperative in their legislation discussions because the state is close to their main operations; while also having a high rate of pedestrian deaths, an aging population, and a versatile terrain.

Continental announced that it expects to have fully autonomous vehicles available by 2025, with premium/luxury cars offering the freeway/construction technology starting on 2015.

2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS revealed

LAS VEGAS – Last week, Chevrolet unveiled its much anticipated 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS race car. Look for this rear-wheel drive performance sedan as Chevrolet's newest entry in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, which begins with the 2013 SpeedWeeks in Daytona, Fla.

NASCAR and Chevrolet SS

Chevrolet’s new NASCAR race car bears a very close resemblance to the all-new rear wheel drive V-8 Chevrolet SS performance sedan that is set to make its debut early next year.
As we mentioned earlier, the 2013 NASCAR Chevrolet SS race car will campaign in the top-tier Sprint Cup series next year. It will replace the Chevrolet Impala which scored 152 wins in its 12 year stints, from 1959-64 and 2007-12.

Chevrolet has 702 victories in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, more than any other manufacturer. Last month, five-time series champion Jimmie Johnson achieved Chevrolet's 700th victory at Texas Motor Speedway.

Limited Edition?

Chevrolet has indicated that a "limited production version" of the SS will be available in dealer showrooms late next year, in the form of a 2014-model-year sedan. Before that, Chevrolet’s first sedan to feature rear-wheel drive in 17 will debut at the 2013 Daytona Speed Week (Which runs from February 16-23, 2013).
Chevrolet has already begun teasing that on February 21 the production car will be revealed during the Speed Week festivities. That same day, the next-generation Holden Commodore, which birthed the SS, is being revealed in Australia.

Keep checking back for updates as NASCAR season gets closer!
