know that Chevrolet announced that this would be the last year this one of a
kind Pick-up/SUV hybrid would be released.
The Chevy Avalanche is the pickup truck that pioneered the
midgate, A fold-down panel with removable glass that allows Avalanche owners to
choose between having a SUV like truck, with a five- or six-seat cabin and a
medium-sized bed, or a 4 seater pick up with a longer flat bed. The inclusion
of the midgate made the Avalanche a sort of spin-off of GM's full-size truck
family, which includes the Chevy Silverado.
If you take a look at the interior of the 2013 Avalanche, you
will notice that the cockpit is just like the Silverado’s with a choice of five
or six seats. The five-seat model of the Avalanche offers a wide console with a
lot of room for storage and the six-passenger model has a plainer dash with no
console.
One great part about the interior of the 2013 Chevy Avalanche
is that it comes equipped with big gauges, big door handles, and big,
easy-to-use knobs and buttons. Clearly Chevy knew its target audience, making
this the perfect vehicle to drive with work gloves.
For the last model year of the 2013 Chevy Avalanche,
Chevrolet equipped it with a 310-horsepower, 5.3-liter V-8 engine that comes mated
to a six-speed automatic, one of the best powertrain’s offered in the GM truck
lineup. It's also outfitted with cylinder deactivation and flex-fuel
capability, which make it slightly greener than some of the engines from competitors
Dodge and Nissan.
For those of you that want more, The 2013 Chevy Avalanche
will also offer an off-road Z71 package offering underbody protection and big
off-road tires. The Avalanche is able to tow up to 8100 pounds and tote 1350 pounds
of payload, above the median for the full-size truck category.
When it's in an altered state, the Avalanche swaps some of
that interior space for pickup-bed capacity. However, once converted the
Avalanche's truck bed grows from 5' 3" to 8' 2", and since the bed
wall has a very tough surface, it really can be used for truck-type hauling
without damaging the flatbed.
Crash-test scores have been pretty good for the 2013 Chevy
Avalanche, and as far as safety features go, It can be fitted with rear parking
sensors and a rearview camera, as well as a blind-spot monitor.
The 2013 Chevy Avalanche will come in three different trims:
LS, LT and LTZ.
The basic Avalanche, the L, comes equipped with standard
power windows, locks and mirrors; keyless entry; a power driver seat; an
AM/FM/XM/CD player with MP3 capability; a USB port; and steering-wheel audio
controls.
The LT and LTZ trims add on some more luxury features to
your Avalanche including a navigation system; Bluetooth; Bose audio; leather
seats; power-adjustable pedals; remote start; and ventilation for the front
seats.
Since the 2013 Avalanche will be the final model year for
the pickup/SUV transformer, Chevy will commemorate the end of the line by
making every 2013 Avalanche the special Black Diamond edition, which adds on
even more standard equipment and a special Black Diamond badge.
